Berry-picking Season Is Over (2010-08-26)

Our berry season is over before you know it.  While the plants produced heaps of fruits, they were sadly only short-lived.  I've taken some pictures as a  record of the boysenberries and raspberries we had.

KL ate most of the fruit with his cereal and I also used a bunch of them in a dish I made up.  It was surprisingly yummy and you might like to try if you also have a glut of berries from your garden.

Pork Chops with Boysenberry Sauce (serves 2)

  1. Salt and pepper two pork chops, dust with flour, pan fry till almost cooked.  Remove from pan, set aside.
  2. In same pan, saute some chopped onion, add a splash of white wine, chicken stock, a handful of boysenberries (or blackberries), 1/2 tsp mustard, and honey till berries break down and sauce is almost reduced.
  3. Return pork chops to sauce and cook for a couple more minutes till they are fully cooked.
  4. Taste and season sauce.

You can add a pat of cold butter to finished sauce (heat off) for a more shiny and smooth sauce if you prefer.
